Wellness Policy Letter
Compton Elementary is a Healthy School whose focus is on leadership and learning. Our school promotes healthy choices and comprehensive wellness education. We focus on before/after school activity opportunities, Brain/Activity Breaks within the classroom, Recess, and our Morning Moment of Movement. As a school, we consistently try to provide students with activity opportunities and comprehensive wellness education.
School Wellness Policy:
· The Compton Elementary Wellness Committee will meet at least once a month.
· Recess and activity throughout the school day is strongly encouraged.
· Classroom Rewards are urged to focus less on food and more on fun. Ex) Crazy Sock Day, No Shoe Day, Extra Recess . . .
· Healthy Snacks and Lunches are essential for our young learner’s growth and development. More nutrition information can be found at www.ChooseMyPlate.gov.
· In accordance with the USDA’s Smart Snacks in School Program, the State of Georgia’s policy allows three 30 day food and beverage fundraising exceptions. Because Compton Elementary is LEADING-THE-WAY IN WELLNESS and we choose to stay in accordance with the standards set by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, food and beverage fundraising days are not to exceed 10 exemption days. However, since the USDA’s Smart Snacks in School Program was implemented, Compton Elementary has had ZERO food and beverage fundraising exceptions.
· Deliverables may vary from year to year, specific goals and objectives will be discussed during the Wellness Committee Meetings and reported to the Cobb County School District Wellness supervisor to keep Compton Elementary in good standing with State Mandated Wellness Protocol.
The Wellness Committee is comprised of teachers, parents, community members, and students. If you are interested in participating in one of our programs or interested in becoming part of the Wellness Team, please contact [email protected] or check out his blog under the wellness tab for more information.
Thank you to the all of the students, teachers, and parents that have worked to adjust daily schedules to incorporate our goals, participated in programs, and supported each other to create a healthy, fun, and safe learning environment at Compton Elementary.
